Brazeau County to outline rules for cannabis retail stores
Brazeau County Council is set to take the first steps in outlining bylaws in anticipation for the legalization of recreational marijuana.
On Tuesday, Council will be going through a motion to direct administration to amend land use bylaws (LUB) to accommodate Cannabis Retail Stores and Cannabis Production and Distribution Facilities in the county.
Since March the county has been consulting the community in advance of the legalization of pot, with a survey being distributed as well as open houses and workshops being held.
If council agrees on amending LUB’s, it will also include amendments to address industrial hemp as well. Potential new bylaws, such as a smoking bylaw to address public consumption, may be brought to council at a future date but will not be discussed at Tuesday’s meeting.
