Assessment ordered for man facing child sex charges

Jul 9, 2018 | 2:34 PM

A Red Deer man accused of numerous child sex crimes is to be sentenced in October.

Stuart Peter Hunt, who is 55, made a brief appearance in Red Deer provincial court on Friday. His case was put over for two months to allow more time for a psychiatric assessment to be completed.

Judge Jim Glass was told an agreed statement of facts has been completed.

Hunt was arrested at his Red Deer home in January and a number of electronic devices were seized.

Police say it was during their investigation into online child pornography crimes that sexual exploitation offences committed against children were uncovered. Several victims, who were known to the accused, have been identified thus far, but ICE believes there could be more. Police say the alleged offences could conceivably date back over the past 20 years.

Charges against Hunt include possessing child pornography, accessing child pornography, distributing child pornography, making child pornography, sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, and making sexually explicit material available to a child.

Sentencing will take place Oct. 9.
