WATCH: Red Deer celebrates Canada Day at Bower Ponds

Jun 30, 2018 | 6:00 PM

Thousands of Red Deerians are expected to descend upon Bower Ponds Sunday for this year’s Canada Day celebrations July 1.

The Red Deer Cultural Heritage Society is hosting this year’s free event which plans to feature live, on stage singing, dancing and storytelling performances from 11:00 am-Midnight, with the fireworks show beginning at 11:00 P.M.

There will also be face painting, bouncy castles, local vendors and a food court made up of international and local ethnic food booths.

Parking however will not be available on location or at Great Chief Park or surrounding area, so if you plan to attend, you can access Bower Ponds by walking, cycling, or taking advantage of the free Park n’ Ride Bus Service.

Starting at 10:45 a.m., residents can park for free, then depart from Sorensen Station for service every 15 minutes to Bower Ponds and back. Bus service will be paused during the fireworks.

Residents are reminded that Alexander Way (47 Street) in Capstone at Riverlands is closed and there is no parking available on 47 Street or 45 Street.

Parking is free at the Sorensen Station parkade, nearby City lots and on street. Parkade opens at 10 a.m. and closes shortly after midnight.
