May RCMP stats show property crime increase continuing in Drayton Valley area

Drayton Valley RCMP had a busy May, with property crimes continuing to spike as 2018 progresses.

Last month saw 119 property crimes reported, including 57 counts of theft under $5,000. A total of 175 Criminal Code violations were reported. 

Total property crimes for the first five months of 2018 has skyrocketed sitting at 515. That number easily eclipses the high of 2014’s total of 384. The largest gains were in the break and enter, theft of motor vehicle, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen goods and fraud categories.

There have been 50 cases of theft of motor vehicles up to May of this year, with the bulk falling into the truck/van/SUV category.
