Jun 26, 2018 | 11:41 AM

The Red Deer Rebels have released their schedule for the 2018-19 Western Hockey League Regular Season.

The Rebels open with a home and home series versus the Edmonton Oil Kings – Friday, Sept. 21 at Rogers Place and Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Enmax Centrium.

All WHL teams will play 68 regular season games starting this season as opposed to 72 games (since 1975-76). Once again, the bulk of WHL regular season games will be played on weekends. Under the new 68-game format, league officials say the number of games on weekends and holidays will increase significantly.

The most significant weekday change is seen on Wednesday, where 30 fewer games will be played in 2018-19. In total, 49 fewer weekday games will be played in 2018-19 than during the 2017-18 season.
