City Hall evacuated for noon hour alarm

Jun 14, 2018 | 1:15 PM

Red Deer City Hall was evacuated for about 45 minutes after a smoke alarm was activated on the building’s main floor Thursday afternoon.

That according to Platoon Chief Chuck Reuther with Red Deer Emergency Services, who says the noon hour evacuation took place quickly and efficiently.

“The panel is indicating there was smoke found on the main floor on the west side of the building in the lobby area,” says Reuther. “The panel indicated maybe it was an elevator issue. The elevators when we left were not functioning so we suspect it was related to the elevators but I cannot confirm. We couldn’t find any other source.”

He says maintenance staff from an elevator company are now at City Hall trying to fix the elevators but everything else is functioning normal and employees are back to work.
