CROSSFIELD- Airdrie RCMP assisted the Calgary Police Service to stop a minivan involved in a carjacking in Calgary and arrest the suspects just outside of Crossfield.

On Tuesday at approximately 2:30 p.m. RCMP were alerted to a vehicle being followed by CPS HAWCS helicopter northbound on the QE2 in the Airdrie area.

The silver Dodge Caravan had been carjacked at knifepoint in Calgary.

Mounties attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued northbound while also increasing speed.

After a short pursuit of the Caravan, a spike belt was deployed successfully slowing the vehicle allowing officers to safely engage the suspects and arrest a man and a woman without incident.

A search of the van turned up a large knife.

A 35-year-old man is facing charges of robbery, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified and possession of methamphetamine.

The woman is also facing charges.

No names have been released.
