Highway 2A reopens after train derailment south of Red Deer

Jun 8, 2018 | 9:10 PM

Blackfalds RCMP are advising area motorists that as of 6:00 p.m. today the highway closure affecting Hwy 2A between McKenzie Road and Springbrook is now open.

RCMP are thanking everyone affected by the highway disruption for their patience and understanding and say there were no injuries but no other information is available at this time.

A seven car train derailment on Friday around 4:45 p.m. disrupted traffic south of Red Deer along Highway 2A north between McKenzie Road and Springbrook.

According to Blackfalds RCMP, the Canadian Pacific cars were carrying crude oil and one was leaking as a result of the derailment. No evacuations were needed though as the location was in a rural, non-residential area.
