Deadpool 2: An edgy, action-packed sequel worth watching
I’m very glad Deapool 2 took it upon itself to push its genre forward.
No, not the comic book genre. This story is a pretty basic comic book tale and DP2 doesn’t do anything more than the first Deadpool to prove the viability of R-rating. It does cram more of the crass jokes and super violence in, but it’s definitely the same formula as the first.
No, the genre Deadpool 2 pushes forward, and I think it fails to get credit for, is the comedy genre. I think, more than the first Deadpool, DP2 proves the viability of a big budget comedy. Some of these jokes simply couldn’t have gone down without a big bag of cash to help.
In fact, in one scene, I dare say Ryan Reynolds and the crew of Deapool 2 managed to put on screen the most expensive joke ever filmed. The sheer amount of advertising budget, pay roll and special effects that go into this joke is nothing short of staggering when you pull back and start to think about it.
