ASDC-Central Male Athlete of the Month: Alex Gerrard

A golfer from Red Deer County has been named the Alberta Sport Development Centre-Central (ASDC-C) Male Athlete of the Month for May.

Alex Gerrard, 14, is a grade nine student at Hunting Hills High School in Red Deer and a competitive golfer at the provincial level.

Gerrard is said to have entered his first golf tournament at the age of eight and has been coached by Jamie Reimer out of the Golf Canada Calgary Centre since the age of 11. He calls both the Red Deer Golf and Country and Innisfail Golf Courses his home courses, with a highlight of his career so far being a win last year at the Carstairs Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) Bantam Division.

ASDC-Central officials say Gerrard looks forward to competing this summer at his first two national level 18 and under events at Golf Canada’s Future Links series at High River, AB and Portage La Prairie, MB.

His goal for the 2018 season is said to be making the cut at the Provincial Junior Boys Division (18 and under) and win three or more CJGA or Maple Leaf Junior Tour (MJT) tournaments. Gerrard’s long-term goal is to play on a Division 1 NCAA team in the USA.

He credits the ASDC-Central program for helping him build and maintain his strength this off-season and since joining the program, has added 30 yards off the tee with his driver.
