Sylvan Lake receives $100,000 for waterfront area redevelopment

SYLVAN LAKE- The Town of Sylvan Lake is receiving more than $100,000 for its sustainable waterfront area redevelopment project, Reimagine Sylvan.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and the Federal Government are spending more than $30 million for 50 initiatives across the Canada.

The Sylvan Lake money will be used to develop a sustainable waterfront area redevelopment plan for the 169-hectare downtown waterfront, to adapt to a growing population and tourism industry.

Sylvan Lake sees more than one million visitors a year.

The project will improve upon the town’s outdated Town of Sylvan Lake Waterfront Area Redevelopment Plan from 2006.

The plan will help in creating an area with diverse recreational amenities, sustainable commercial development, enhanced protection of sensitive natural areas, and diversification of transportation options.

Heritage preservation of historically significant buildings, and affordable housing will also be taken into account.
