Food trucks ready for year three in Sylvan Lake

May 19, 2018 | 7:00 AM

It’s time once again for Food Truck Thursdays in Sylvan Lake.

Beginning May 31 and running each week until September 6, food trucks and other vendors will set up along 50A Avenue between 50 Street and 50A Street.

Communications Officer Joanne Gaudet says there aren’t many changes in the program’s third year, but one should make life a little easier for vendors.

“We do have new hours. Previously we went 11 a.m. straight through to 8 p.m. and just based on feedback from both the public and vendors, that was a little much,” she says. “So we’re scaling it back a little bit and we’re allowing the vendors to take a bit of a break in between.”

New hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and then 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“I think it was a little hard for them in those two hours anyway,” Gaudet says, noting vendors took the change as friendly. “Everything kind of closes up for a while before supper time kicks off again.”

She adds there was some discussion about relocation, but ultimately council agreed they like the current spot.

“For those participants on the eating side of things, they’ve definitely enjoyed the opportunity and look forward to making a habitual return on Thursdays and making either a lunch or evening out of it,” Gaudet continues. “We’ve got some really good feedback from businesses down there; it’s a bit of added traffic, so it’s a bit of a benefit for everyone.”

License fees are the same and the Town will issue the same number of licenses as in previous years.

Otherwise, Gaudet says there are a few new vendors who’ll be announced the week they first set up shop. Vendor line ups and information for vendors are available at SylvanLake.ca/mobilevending.
