Second suspect in 2006 Eckville murder died in March

May 11, 2018 | 6:00 AM

A suspect wanted in connection to an Eckville homicide died earlier this year.

Kevin Edward Brown was charged with first degree murder and kidnapping in relation to the shooting death of Bradley Webber in his RV near Eckville on Oct. 24, 2006.

Brown, who was 35, passed away on March 21 of this year in Calgary. His death came not long after RCMP offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Crown Prosecutor Adam May confirms the charges against Brown will be formally withdrawn next week.

Meantime, the status of the trial for the other man charged for Webber’s death will also be spoken to next week.

A three-week trial for Shane Gulka, 46, was to begin Tuesday in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench. However, the trial was postponed after Gulka’s lawyer raised concerns over the evidence being used against his client.

The case will return to court on May 18 when the Crown and defence will provide an update on where things are at.
