The Red Deer Rebels have hired Brad Flynn and Ryan Colville as Assistant Coaches.

Flynn is from Moncton, New Brunswick and was the Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations for the Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American (Junior) Hockey League for the past two seasons.  Prior to that, he was an Assistant Coach with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for one year.  For two seasons before his time in Acadie-Bathurst, he was the Assistant General Manager/Associate Coach/Marketing Director for the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.  Flynn graduated from Brock University (St. Catherines, ON) in 2011. His father Dan is currently an Assistant Coach with the Portland Winterhawks.

“I’m extremely excited to become a part of the Red Deer Rebels organization,” says Flynn. “Getting the opportunity to work for Mr. Sutter is a special opportunity and I am very fortunate to do so. As proud as I am to join the organization, my young family is just as excited to join a great community like Red Deer.”

Colville is from Milton, Ontario and was the President/General Manager/Head Coach of the Cincinnati Thunder of the North American 3 (Junior) Hockey League from 2015-17.  Before going to Cincinnati, Colville was the Los Angeles Kings Video Coach for five seasons and was part of the Kings 2012 Stanley Cup Championship.  He was also Video Coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets for two seasons before going to Los Angeles and is a graduate of Ohio State University in 2008.

“I’m extremely excited to join the Red Deer Rebels family.  I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Brent to help the team and the players succeed,” he says. “I have heard nothing but great things about the Red Deer community and their passion for the Rebels.  I can’t wait to get started.”

Rebels GM and Head Coach Brent Sutter is pleased to be adding Flynn and Colville to his staff.

“Since the season ended, and our two assistant coaching positions became available, we had a lot of top candidates apply for the positions. Through the process of researching our candidates, and interviewing some, we have been very fortunate to have it come to Brad and Ryan as the two people that fit all the needs we are looking for in these coaching positions. Although young, both have a wealth of experience and will be great additions to the staff. Their loyalty, work ethic, enthusiasm, communication skills, and creativity on how the game is played today will be very beneficial to the players and our staff.”

Both Brad Flynn and Ryan Colville will be at the Red Deer Rebels Prospects camp June 1-3 in Penhold.

Assistant Coach Erik Lodge and Goaltending Coach Taylor Dakers will both be back with the Rebels for the 2018-19 season.
