May 7, 2018 | 1:54 PM

Two men face charges after an attempted armed robbery at the Nordegg Lodge over the weekend.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded at about 10:00 a.m. Saturday after two disguised males drove a truck to the main doors of the lodge and with a tow rope attempted to steal the ATM.

One male suspect was denied access to the ATM as a lodge employee locked the entrance. Police say one male suspect was carrying what is believed to be a firearm.

Both male suspects fled in a dark blue Ford F250 which Mounties later on Highway 11. The truck fled when officers attempted a traffic stop before a spike belt was used to disable the vehicle on Sunchild Road. Both occupants fled on foot into the nearby bush.

RCMP recovered a sawed off shotgun, which the driver was seen to discard into the ditch. RCMP determined the vehicle was previously stolen from Edmonton.

The area was contained and with the assistance of the Police Dog Service and the public, the RCMP were able to locate one male suspect who was arrested and placed into custody. The second suspect was later located walking along the Highway and was subsequently arrested and placed into custody.

Charges against Kyle Earl Harstad, 31, and Tyler Jackson Patten, 27, include robbery with a firearm, disguise with intent, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession weapon for dangerous purpose, criminal flight from police and possession of break in tools

Both accused have been remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in Rocky Mountain House provincial court on May 9 via CCTV.
