City fields, diamonds and courts now open but no cleats yet

Officials with the City of Red Deer have announced that local sports fields are now open but not yet ready for cleats.

The announcement pertains to all sports fields, diamonds and courts in Red Deer but due to the moisture still in some fields, residents and sports teams are asked to avoid using cleats until after May 7.

Officials add that with the extra moisture, grass turf can easily be damaged by cleats with City staff still performing spring maintenance on these surfaces.

Residents are thanked for their patience and cooperation.
