Two killed in highway crash near Mayerthorpe: RCMP

 Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash just outside Mayerthorpe on Tuesday afternoon.

The RCMP said the collision occured on Highway 43 at the intersection of Highway 22 around 1:09 p.m.

Initial investigation indicates that a northbound car was crossing Highway 43 and collided with a semi tractor trailer travelling eastbound. 

The two female occupants of the car involved, a 67-year-old driver and a 46-year-old passenger, were both pronounced deceased on scene.

The 57-year-old semi driver did not suffer any injuries.

Police said crews were on scene for four hours diverting traffic from the scene. 

A collision analyst attended the scene and police said an investigation is still ongoing, however it is not anticipated that charges will be laid. 

Mayerthorpe is approximately 90 kilometres north of Drayton Valley.
