Alberta to provide over $700,000 to improve the Modeste Creek subwatershed

The Alberta government has announced a $721,000 grant for a project to help restore wetlands along the Modeste Creek subwatershed.

The funding is part of a larger $5.8 million announced Tuesday by the province through the Watershed Resiliency and Restoration Program (WRRP.)

The project is to occur on the subwatershed and North Saskatchewan River Basin Riparian. 263 hectares of wetlands in the Modeste Creek watershed will undergo restoration, and an evaluation of the effectiveness and relative scale of green infrastructure for flood and drought mitigation will be done as well.

The program that was awarded the funding, ALUS Canada, helps farmers and ranchers restore wetlands among other ecologically beneficial projects.
