A Medicine Hat man is facing charges after RCMP arrested a suspect accused of stealing a vehicle and attempting a break and enter in Red Deer County this week.

It happened April 25 when Innisfail Mounties responded to a call of a man allegedly banging on a door and breaking the glass of a rural residence east of Innisfail.

Multiple police units attended and set up containment in the area, including Red Deer County Patrol, Red Deer Police Dog Service and Red Deer City RCMP Traffic Unit.

Upon arrival, police found a stolen Jeep Cherokee that had been involved in a collision with a power pole.

While on scene, RCMP spotted a vehicle attempting to leave a neighbouring farm yard that became stuck in a ditch while trying to avoid a washout from recent flooding. The lone male occupant was arrested, with further investigation revealing the accused had allegedly stolen a Jeep and tried to steal another vehicle at the Innisfail Dodge Dealership earlier that morning.

Tyler Wells, 32, of Medicine Hat is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter, two counts of mischief, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of break-in tools.

Wells has been remanded in custody for a Red Deer court appearance May 2.
