Red Deerians are being encouraged to take part in the City’s annual spring clean-up.

Officials with the City of Red Deer say it’s not too late to register for the Green Deer campaign which encourages residents to help do their part in keeping the community clean by picking up any litter in all outdoor areas of the city, including parks, back alleys, school yards and businesses where garbage and debris can accumulate over the winter months.

“When individuals, families and organizations come together to clean up the community, it not only has amazing results, it is also incredibly rewarding,” says Suzanne Jubb, Community and Program Facilitator, City of Red Deer in a press release. “The program continues through June 3 and people can volunteer as their schedule permit. So far we’ve had a great response from the public, and registrants are enthusiastic about helping to keep Red Deer beautiful.”

By helping to clean all outdoor spaces in Red Deer, City officials say it protects our community’s parks and wildlife that live here as well. It also helps to create and maintain a safe environment for children, pets and all residents of Red Deer.

You can officially become part of the Green Deer program by registering at 403-309-8411 or in person at the Recreation Centre, G.H. Dawe Community Centre, Collicutt Centre or Kerry Wood Nature Centre. A Green Deer Registration BBQ will also be taking place May 1 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. in the Parkland Mall Parking Lot.

In addition, officials say many community associations are organizing neighbourhood cleanup events throughout May. You can find your neighbourhood’s community association on the City of Red Deer’s website to see when your neighbourhood event is happening.
