A Rocky Mountain House man arrested last month for drug trafficking will spend two and a half years behind bars.

It was on March 13 that Mounties spotted a suspicious vehicle with a male and female inside sitting in a parking lot in a targeted crime hotspot area.

An officer observed a male passenger making efforts to conceal drugs and money from view in the vehicle. Both occupants were arrested and a subsequent search of the occupants and vehicle revealed a large amount of crack cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone and heroin. Police also located and seized a large amount of Canadian currency, a police radio scanner and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Tyler Shaw, 32, pleaded guilty on March 28 to possession for the purpose of trafficking and was sentenced to 30 months in prison. He also faces a 10-year firearms prohibition upon his release.
