Mounties and Emergency Services to drop the puck for Humboldt

Apr 13, 2018 | 8:50 PM

It’s being dubbed the ‘Battle of the Badges,’ and it’s in the name of honouring the Humboldt Broncos.

Next Friday, Red Deer RCMP and Red Deer Emergency Services will take to the ice at Servus Arena for a charity hockey game.

The event also includes a BBQ, 50/50 and silent auction.

“This sort of tragedy hits close to home for everyone, not just first responders,” says Superintendent Ken Foster of the Red Deer RCMP. “We all have connections to youth and sport, and this charity hockey game is an opportunity for the community to come together and express our collective sadness and support for everyone affected by the terrible loss of so many young people.”

The event begins with the BBQ at 4:30 in the Servus Arena parking lot. The puck drops at 6 p.m and admission is by donation.

Members of the Sutter family will be behind the bench.

“Our hearts are with the community of Humboldt and everyone affected by this tragedy,” added Ken McMullen, Emergency Services Manager. “The impact of this tragedy is profound and we’re honoured to stand alongside our RCMP colleagues to show our support for Humboldt Broncos.”

Red Deer RCMP and Red Deer Emergency Services thank the community for coming together in support of this charity event.
