New initiatives receive FCSS grant money in Lacombe

Three new initiatives are among the list of projects in Lacombe that will benefit from funding being allocated in this year’s FCSS Community Grant Program.

Connect Parent Group, a new program to support parents of children aged 8 to 18 will be offered through the County of Lacombe Lifelong Learning Association, Kozy Korner Senior’s Centre will be offering new activities and the Centre for Peace and Justice will be facilitating conflict skills training workshops.

Officials with the City of Lacombe say this year’s FCSS grant funding will also assist ongoing children and youth programs offered through Big Brothers & Big Sisters and Central Alberta Youth Unlimited.

Teenage moms meanwhile will be supported through the CYU Stepping Stones program and local seniors will be supported through the efforts of Volunteer Link programs.

Officials also note that The City of Lacombe has provided Lacombe and District FCSS with additional funds to facilitate the 2018 Community Grant Program to the tune of $31,500.

Targeted at preventative social programs, the following is a list of community organizations in Lacombe who received funding through this year’s grant:

Big Brothers Big Sisters – Community Mentoring – $10,912

Youth Unlimited – Youth Drop-in Program – $5,138

Youth Unlimited – Stepping Stones – $3,062

Volunteer Link – Volunteer Link Office Operations – $5,725

Lacombe Lifelong Learning – Connect Parent Group – $4,600

Kozy Korner Senior’s – Special events – $1,063

Centre for Peace and Justice – Conflict Skills Training Workshops – $1,000
