Innisfail water meter upgrades on the way

Apr 8, 2018 | 11:49 AM

The Town of Innisfail is preparing to begin the process of installing modernized water meter registers on every property in the community.

Beginning in May, town officials say the process which is anticipated to last several months, will ultimately result in the easier monitoring and managing of water consumption for Innisfail residents and businesses.

It’s expected the registers will arrive equipped with remote reading capabilities, streamlining the water usage data collection process for both property owners and Town staff.

Ratepayers will have the ability to monitor their water consumption via their smart phones, while Town staff will be able to collect twice-daily water meter readings which are currently collected once-a-month and only by driving in close proximity to the meter being read.

“Residents and businesses will soon have the ability to monitor, manage and if necessary, adjust their water consumption in an environmentally responsible manner, perhaps even lowering their monthly utility bills in the process,” says Rod Fraser, Director of Operations in a Town of Innisfail press release. “Ultimately, the ability to do so will remain within their own hands but this new tool will certainly assist them in their conservation efforts.”

Master Meter Canada – from which the registers are being sourced – will be contacting residents and businesses over the next few weeks to begin scheduling appointments for the mandatory upgrades and installations.
