Suspect described as known property offender arrested in Alix

Stettler RCMP are thanking the public for the tips and timely reporting of suspicious activity this week that resulted in the arrest of a person Mounties describe as a known property offender.

The series of incidents began March 21 around 9:00 a.m. when police were alerted to a person requesting help in replacing a tire on a vehicle at a rural property in the Big Valley / Byemoor area.

Upon arrival, RCMP say the suspect fled in the vehicle which was later determined to be stolen. The vehicle was then tracked to another rural property where it was abandoned and an F-350 stolen.

Through observant passers-by, the F-350 was also roughly tracked as it drove north towards Stettler.

However, around 11:00 a.m., Bashaw RCMP received a complaint of a man trying to gain entry into vehicles using a hammer in Alix. Mounties say the suspect’s description matched the days previous investigations, with Stettler RCMP and Blackfalds Integrated Traffic Unit coming in to assist.

After a brief foot chase, a suspect was taken into custody, with it being determined the same person was responsible for mischief caused to some vehicles and allegedly breaking into a garage where several items were taken.

Police say physical evidence was obtained from each scene linking the suspect to all three investigations.

Kyle Grams, 29, has been remanded into custody for a court appearance March 26.

He faces charges including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, flight from police and mischief among others.
