Young entrepreneurs showcase businesses at ‘Company Program’ celebration

Three teams of students from Red Deer high schools had a chance Thursday night to showcase their very own business in front of their fellow peers, mentors and company sponsors.

The Junior Achievement ‘Company Program’ culminated at the Holiday Inn & Suites – Gasoline Alley March 15 and wrapped up 18 weeks of the student team’s hard work in establishing a business plan, electing an executive and creating their very own product, all under the guidance of mentors from the local business community.

Officials say ‘Company Program’ allows students to see what it’s like to work in business, be an entrepreneur and work on a team to achieve a common goal.

JA Southern Alberta has been educating the central Alberta region’s youth about financial literacy, entrepreneurship and workplace readiness for over 50 years, with this year being the first time the program has been run in Red Deer.

Local sponsors included the RDC Donald School of Business, Peavey Industries, Melcor Developments, the Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Red Deer.
