Red Deer’s Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre has been chosen as this year’s grad service project recipient for students of Ecole Secondaire Notre Dame High School.

For the past 10 years, Notre Dame students have raised $497,730 for local charities across central Alberta through their annual grad service projects. This year, the students are hoping to raise $40,000 for Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre, an organization dedicated to helping kids with special needs reach their full potential and provide much-needed support for their parents.

In a release, Grad Service Project Coordinator Shannon Nivens, says grad service projects are their tradition.

“This tradition allows students to experience school pride and giving back to their community.”

From March 12 – 17, teams of six students from Notre Dame and St. Francis of Assisi Middle School will be joined by their team teachers to work together to complete challenges during lunch hours to earn points.

Then on March 16 at 4:00 p.m., student teams along with a parent will compete in a 21-hour scavenger hunt and amazing race throughout the City of Red Deer, with students to return to Notre Dame at 1:00 p.m. the next day on Saturday, March 17.

Officials say the teams who earn the most points and raise the most money will be awarded prizes. One hundred per cent of the proceeds will go to Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre.
