Two men arrested after armed carjacking in Brazeau County
Two men are facing multiple charges after a cab driver was carjacked on Highway 620 in Brazeau County early Thursday morning.
On March 8 at approximately 4:13 a.m. Drayton Valley RCMP received a call of a carjacking with a firearm on Highway 620 in Brazeau County. Police say a cab driver had their vehicle stolen by suspects who hired the cab for a ride, and while on the road pointed a firearm at the driver and ordered the driver to leave. The driver did so and was not injured.
An alert was sent out to Rocky Mountain House RCMP who made contact with the stolen vehicle. A second suspect involved with another stolen vehicle attempted to block Mounties from stopping the stolen cab however police were able to get by the second stolen vehicle and deploy a spikebelt, disabling the stolen cab.
Several gunshots were discharged by the suspect into the air and after a short standoff the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The second stolen vehicle was also successfully stopped by police after it had broken down and the driver was taken into custody.
