Rocky man going to trial for drugs, firearms offences

Mar 8, 2018 | 2:57 PM

A Rocky Mountain House man facing drug and firearms-related charges after a bust by local Mounties will go to trial later this year.

Following a lengthy investigation, RCMP executed a search warrant at a home in Rocky Mountain House on Feb. 2, 2017 and turned up cocaine, methamphetamine, magic mushrooms and other illicit drugs. Mounties also seized Canadian currency, drug trafficking paraphernalia and a large number of illegal high-powered rifles and shotguns.

Wade Otterson, 31, faces several counts of drug trafficking, proceeds of crime under $5,000, unlawful possession of firearms, unsafe storage of firearms and other serious criminal charges. His trial in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench is scheduled for December 14.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP said the arrest of Otterson was part of a strategic plan to reduce illicit drugs in the community. Officers from the Red Deer RCMP Priority Crimes Task Force and Police Dog Services assisted in the arrest.
