Sylvan Lake launches survey ahead of pot legalization

Mar 1, 2018 | 1:54 PM

The Town of Sylvan Lake has launched an online survey to find out more about how residents will be impacted once the federal government legalizes marijuana this summer.

Town officials say a municipal government’s role in the legalization process is to develop bylaws and policies to regulate business and public consumption, as well as to educate and enforce regulations.

Finding out how best to manage the legalization of cannabis through bylaws and policies is the main goal behind the survey.

The Town of Blackfalds is also running a marijuana survey which so far has had over 200 responses. Data from this survey, which can be filled out here, will be used by the Town to finalize requirements for locations and
setbacks of retail cannabis stores and to gather input from Town residents in regards to where cannabis should and should not be restricted similar to tobacco and smoking reduction act regarding setbacks from public buildings and public spaces.
