A preliminary hearing has been ordered for a local man accused of posing as a lawyer as part of a fraud scheme.

Mounties began their investigation in March 2017 after receiving a complaint that the suspect had represented himself as a lawyer and taken money from his victims in exchange for reportedly preparing legal documents.

Nine victims reported dealing with the suspect in return for legal services on various dates between December and April, including a process server who was hired by the suspect to serve a civil claim, and one victim who grew suspicious and did not pay the suspect.

Police say the suspect operated under the fictitious business name SS & Associates LLP and that the alleged frauds took place between December 2016 and April 2017.
