Building permits issued to replace a middle school and expand a local hotel have resulted in a significant boost in building permit values in the City of Red Deer to start the new year.

City officials say building permits of $15.3 million and $10 million issued to replace Westpark Middle School and for construction of phase 2 of the Holiday Inn Express Hotel respectively, have led the way in January’s permit values coming in at $30 million.

That’s up from $11.5 million issued in January of 2017.
