Smoky haze forces evacuation of apartment building in Bower

Feb 5, 2018 | 1:15 PM

An apartment building in Red Deer’s Bower neighbourhood was evacuated for a short time on Monday after fire crews responded to alarms ringing at the building on Bell Street.

Platoon Chief Gord Klootwyk says two engine crews attended and found a light haze on the building’s second floor.

“They did a search of the building and saw it was confined to the laundry room area,” explains Klootwyk. “We did a complete search of the building, found no evidence of fire anywhere and they’ve concluded it was related to the dryers. An appliance person is going to come and do some checking out of the dryers and everyone is free to go back to their home.”

Klootwyk adds the building was evacuated for precautionary reasons while crews searched for the source of the smoky haze.
