Rebels sweep Saskatchewan with Moose Jaw win

The Red Deer Rebels are now on a three-game winning streak thanks to a 3-1 victory over the top-ranked Warriors in Moose Jaw Friday night.

The big win follows a 2-0 shutout over the Blades in Saskatoon Wednesday night and 4-3 overtime victory over the Raiders in Prince Albert Tuesday.

The first period saw the Rebels get on the board first when Chris Douglas scored his fourth of the season at 14:46 to make it 1-0 Red Deer after twenty minutes.

In the second, Moose Jaw responded when Josh Brook picked up his eighth of the year at 13:19 to tie it up at 1-1 after forty.

The third period saw Red Deer pull away for good as Brandon Hagel scored his eighth of the season at 9:46 to make it 2-1 for the visitors, later proving to be the game-winner. Kristian Reichel sealed the victory for Red Deer when he scored an empty netter at 18:24, his 20th of the year to make it a 3-1 final.

Shots on goal finished 33-28 in favour of Moose Jaw, while the Warriors went 0-2 on the power play, as did the Rebels.

The league-leading Warriors now drop to 39-9-1-2 with 81 points and first place in the WHL’s Eastern Division, while Red Deer improves to 15-25-9-3 with 40 points and fourth in the Central.

The Rebels next game is Saturday, February 3 in Brandon to face the Wheat Kings.
