Many central Alberta ringette players found themselves in Edmonton over the weekend, competing with the best ringette teams in western Canada at the 32nd annual Edmonton Woods Tournament.

In fact, the Central Alberta Sting U19AA ringette team returned home from the November 24-26 tourny with a silver medal. The Sting entered the Gold medal final undefeated after four games and saw a solid performance by McKenna Smalley in net, along with goals from Kianna Doyle, Emily LaMasurier, Hannah Morrison and Rachel Vandervlis. However, they were not enough to beat the Eastman Flames of Manitoba who won 6-4.

The Central Alberta U16AA Sting finished the weekend with a 2-2-1 record. They dropped their opening 2 games Friday to the Zone 2 AA 6-3 and the Calgary Surge 7-5. The Sting battled back on Saturday though with a victory over the St. Alberta Mission 4-2 and a hard fought 4-4 tie with the Winnipeg Angels. Sunday saw the Sting defeat the Sherwood Park Power 5-3 in the 7th place game.

Elsewhere, the Central Alberta Sting U14AA ringette team lost all 5 tournament games. Highlights however included 2 goal games on the weekend from Katie Shorey, Ryann Tonery and Charlie Young.
