Inspector James McLaren has been named as the new Maskwacis RCMP Detachment Commander.
Chief Superintendent Shahin Mehdizadeh, District Commander for Central Alberta District, made the announcement on Wednesday.
Mehdizadeh says the Montana First Nation, Ermineskin Cree Nation, Samson Cree Nation and Louis Bull First Nation were consulted in the selection process to fill the role.
Inspector McLaren has previously served in ‘V’, “E”, “K” and Depot Divisions along with a deployment as civilian police with the United Nations Mission to Kosovo. He has done the majority of his service General Duty policing with an emphasis on serving First Nation communities.
McLaren brings experience in policing First Nation communities and will be engaged in the needs and expectations of the detachment and the communities the detachment serves.
McLaren is taking over for Inspector Earl Nini, who has been the Detachment Commander in Maskwacis since 2015. He is scheduled to assume command of the detachment on Nov. 20.
