UPDATE: Charges laid in Anders shooting during break in attempt

Charges have been laid following a shooting in the Anders neighbourhood nearly two months ago that sent a 23-year-old man to hospital.

The man was shot and injured on Sept. 12 after he interrupted a break in at a home on Asmundsen Avenue.

Police say the suspect was carrying a short-barrel small calibre firearm and a machete at the time of the incident. The victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his back and a number of cuts during a struggle with the suspect.

Darren Curtis Lagrelle, 21, now faces charges of aggravated assault, uttering threats, robbery with weapon, and breaking and entering.

Lagrelle, who remains in custody, is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer Provincial Court on December 12.
