Domestic Violence service awards handed out for 13th year

Frontline service providers in the area of domestic violence were recognized once again on Wednesday.
 
The annual awards are handed out by the Domestic & Relationship Violence Initiative Committee.
 
Accepting a lifetime achievement award was Kim Haugen, who works with the Domestic Violence Intervention Response Team.
 
“It’s a great privilege for me to be able to assist somebody to escape domestic violence and to move on and have a healthy, safe environment,” she said.
 
Haugen also spoke about GPS ankle bracelets, which were the focus of a speech from guest speaker Vince Morelli of SafeTracks GPS.
 
“I want the bracelet system back, you betcha,” she added. “It was a wonderful program and it was very unfortunate that it ended.”
 
The Patrick Dillon Leadership Award was given to Jim Freeman with J. Freeman Psychotherapy Ltd. Freeman has spent decades developing treatment services for perpetrators and victims of domestic violence.
 
The Frontline Service Providers’ Awards were given to two recipients in recognition of their dedication and hardwork in providing services to those impacted by domestic violence and bullying.
 
The recipients are Samantha Chartrand of the Outreach Centre’s Julietta’s Place and Lauren Davies with Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Corrections.
 
The Frontline Service Providers’ Awards have been handed out since 2005.
