United Way and McDonalds team up to launch Heart Campaign

Oct 29, 2017 | 2:23 PM

The United Way of Central Alberta has teamed up with Red Deer McDonald’s locations to launch the first ever ‘Heart Campaign’ in support of the organizations United Way serves.

This inaugural campaign began October 26 and will continue until McDonalds United Way Day November 15.

From now until then, every McDonald’s customer in Red Deer will have the chance to purchase a paper heart, with funds going to the United Way of Central Alberta and the over 30 local organizations it serves and supports.

Also on McDonald’s United Way Day, one dollar from every Big Mac, Happy Meal and Egg McMuffin will be donated to the United Way.

In a release, United Way Co-Chair Ken Johnston says, “The timing of this new partnership with McDonald’s couldn’t be better.”

“We know there are a lot of businesses still struggling with the economy and we can’t keep asking the same people to give more each year. This is a great step forward in expanding the reach and impact of United Way Central Alberta,” added Johnston.

McDonald’s Red Deer franchisee Bob Carpenter said, “We strongly believe in our community and giving back to the neighbourhoods where we live and work. McDonald’s United Way Day and the Heart Campaign will give our employees an opportunity to support families and children in central Alberta.”

Officials say all the money raised from the Heart Campaign and McDonald’s United Way Day will stay in the community and help kids be all they can be.
