Olds RCMP are on the hunt for a suspect who escaped arrest then rammed two police cruisers with a stolen vehicle while fleeing.

It was at about 5:45 a.m. Sunday when Olds RCMP members were patrolling the Imperial Industrial Park when a suspicious vehicle was observed in the parking of the UFA. Members discovered that the vehicle has been reported stolen and initiated a traffic stop.

A male and female were placed under arrest. However, police say the male was able to break free then drag the already handcuffed female back into the stolen vehicle and began driving away.

Officers deployed a spike belt but the suspect continued by ramming two police cars.  Police pursued the suspect vehicle for a short distance before it came to a stop.  The male was unsuccessful in his attempt to steal another car from a passing motorist before fleeing the scene on foot.

The female was taken back into custody.  The male has not been located.

Mounties say both suspects have been identified and are known to police.

While this incident caused extensive damage to property, police say none of the involved officers, public or suspects were injured in the incident.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-8477 (TIPS).
