Two arrested following altercation in Highland Green

Sep 11, 2017 | 11:14 AM

Charges are pending against a pair of men arrested over the weekend in north Red Deer.

On Saturday evening, Mounties responded to a report of a man with a handgun on a residential street in the Highland Green area.

It was shortly after 5 p.m. when RCMP say there was an altercation between several men on Hewson Avenue which involved the handgun. Police determined which residence the suspects had gone into and subsequently contained the area. At the same time, they contacted the three occupants of the home and devised a safe exit plan for each of them.

RCMP presence in the area was heavy and members were joined by Police Dog Services due to the potential risk for public safety, it says in a release.

The two men and one woman in the residence cooperated and were taken into custody; the woman was later released without charge. RCMP located parts of a handgun and bullets inside the home. They continue to investigate.

Names of the two men, aged 35 and 41, are yet to be released because their charges are yet to be sworn before the courts.
