One of the candidates seeking the leadership of the United Conservative Party is making a big promise when it comes to Red Deer Regional Hospital.

Doug Schweitzer announced Friday a proposal to allocate $10 million for a Cardiac Catheterization Lab at the hospital.

Schweitzer says the money for the lab would come from his previously announced Community Infrastructure Plan, which would be funded through his idea to take 40% of ATB Financial public.

“As I’ve traveled and met with people in Red Deer and central Alberta the issue of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab has been brought to my attention,” Schweitzer said in a release. “Nearly everyone in Red Deer has a family member or knows of someone who has been affected by this gap in services. This is the exact type of project that I intend to invest in through our Community Infrastructure Fund.”
