Suspects run out of gas fleeing Innisfail Mounties in stolen truck

Aug 25, 2017 | 4:25 PM

It’s a lot easier for police to catch suspects when their vehicle runs out of gas.

That’s exactly what happened early Thursday morning in Innisfail.

Mounties were patrolling 50 Street just before 3 a.m. when they noticed an older model black Ford truck with an expired plate.

Rather than pull over for police, the truck, which was stolen, sped away and was later spotted slowing down and swerving in the lane it was driving in.

The vehicle exited the roadway and entered a farmer’s field where it stopped because it has run out of gas.

The female passenger exited the truck and was arrested without incident.  The male driver fled on foot and with the assistance of RCMP police dog services the male was arrested a short time later.

Jeremy Terpstra, 33, of Red Deer has been charged with :

•             Possess stolen property under $5000.00 X2
•             Flight from Police
•             Obstruction
•             Dangerous Driving
•             Drive while disqualified
•             Mischief not exceeding $5000.00

Katelin Savard (Cunningham), 25, of Innisfail is charged with :

•             Possess stolen property under $5,000.00 X2
•             Breach of Recognizance X4
•             Possess weapon dangerous to the public peace

She was also arrested on July 31 after police spotted her in another stolen vehicle in Innisfail.

Both Terpstra and Cunningham were due in Red Deer court today.
