Olds College Athletics has hired a new head coach for its women’s hockey program.

Chris Leeming officially takes over as Broncos bench boss starting Sept. 1.

The college says Leeming brings a wealth of coaching and playing experience to the position, having played in the Ontario Junior Hockey system from 2004 to 2010. Most recently, Leeming was the Assistant Coach for the University of Windsor Lancers Women’s Hockey program for four years. He is also a recent graduate of the University of Windsor, where he earned his Bachelor of Education Degree.

Leeming replaces former Head Coach, Sarah Hilworth who stepped down in June to take the head coaching position at the University of New Brunswick.

Linda Henderson, Broncos Athletic Director anticipates a smooth transition.

“Chris is a very knowledgeable coach who will help the team’s skill level, mental game, and intensity,” she comments. “The goal is always to make it to ACAC playoffs, and with a stronger and more experienced team than we’ve had in the past two years, it is definitely possible.”

“I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with such an enthusiastic management group, and team of student-athletes that are determined to win. I’d like to acknowledge the tremendous work Sarah did to bring this program to it’s current state as starting up a new team in the ACAC is no easy task,” says Leeming. “My goal is to build off of the foundation that she has created here, and further develop a team culture and identity that stems from a passion for the game, thrives on integrity, and maximizes the potential of our student-athletes.”
