Woman drowns at Gull Lake

Tragedy at Gull Lake Saturday afternoon.

Blackfalds RCMP and emergency services were dispatched at about 1 p.m. to an accidental drowning of a 57-year-old-woman at the lake.  

Mounties say the victim was floating in an inflatable dingy when the dingy capsized. They say the victim was not a strong swimmer and subsequently  became separated from the dingy.

Bystanders attempted to reached the woman and successfully brought her to shore. The victim was still conscious and first-aid was administered.

The woman was transported by ambulance to Lacombe hospital but was pronounced deceased while en route. Her name is not being released.

Police say the woman was not wearing a personal flotation device at the time of the incident.

Blackfalds Victim Services is providing assistance to family, friends and witnesses.
