Red Deer girls fastball team wins provincial title

A Red Deer girls fastball team is provincial champs.

The U10 Red Deer Rage actually went winless all regular season playing against older U12B teams in the Girls Prairie Softball League.

Recently, the team finally got a chance to play against girls their own age at provincials, going undefeated in four round robin games.

The streak included wins of 18-6 over Calgary, 11-1 against Olds, 6-5 versus Lloydminster and 18-2 over Sherwood Park.

In the semi-final, the Rage played a fellow Red Deer team winning 18-3, before going on the take out Sylvan Lake 12-8 for the gold medal.

“Success was due mostly to having a great group of girls who were really willing to put in the hard work. While we did have some great individual performances , the whole weekend was a total team effort, everyone contributed,” says Coach Lee Booth.

“The parents were so helpful and enthusiastic all season. Our cheering section which included fans from all over Alberta, Saskatchewan and even one from Manitoba were so loud and awesome all weekend, but especially during the gold medal game.”
