Sharmane and Lorne Hindbo plan to do whatever they can to support the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

On Friday, the couple from Caroline toured the brand new home they won in the grand prize draw for the 2017 Red Deer Hospitals’ Lottery.

While they quite like the 3,500 square foot, $840,000 home in Laredo, the Hindbos says they’ll be selling it to raise money for improvements back home, namely a water well.

The Hindbos say they’d like to support the cause moving forward by having their business, South Ram Outfitters / Ram River Tours, become prize sponsors for next year’s lottery.

Sharmane and Lorne have a personal connection to Red Deer Regional Hospital after their granddaughter, Sarah Cook spent time in the ICU.

This year’s lottery overcame a sluggish economy to sell more than 80 per cent of its tickets.

Lottery Chair Graham Moore says they were able to raise more than $500,000 to purchase new high-tech beds for the hospital. The beds cost approx. $18,000 each.
