Rocky Chamber of Commerce gets new Executive Director

The Rocky Chamber of Commerce has a new face that will be taking over the roll as Executive Director.

At the Chamber’s last Lunch N Learn on June 8, Prab Lashar was announced as the new Executive Director.

Lashar, who is originally from Toronto, Ont., has a journalism background from CBC television, Ontario Government experience where she worked in the Ministry of tourism, economic development, health and natural resources. She later came to Calgary with her family a couple years back and worked in utilities and for non-for-profit organizations.

“I have the background to understand the economic development and the tourism side which is very important to the economy of Rocky Mountain House” said Lashar.

Lashar adds that not only is she enjoying her short commute to work and the community, but what really attracted her to this job opportunity was the strong membership that the chamber holds.

“I always believe united you stand, divided you fall and that really attracted me because I wanted to make an impact in the community and I felt you can only do that if you have a strong membership. So now I’m looking forward in the fall to be more collaborative and do more events with our membership so that we can come together and work on strategies that maybe in the past we were not able to do.”

Outgoing Executive Director, Cindy Taschuk has had this title for almost 14 years in the community, but has worked at the Chamber for a total of 16 years.

“This has been such a great job, you meet a lot of people in the community” says Taschuk.

Over the years the chamber has grown in a new direction where the focus is on economic development and representation of membership.

“They have lots of exciting stuff coming up, so I’m looking forward to see just where it’s going to go now… and sit back.”

Taschuk adds that she will be partnering with MLA Jason Nixon and his team for a while to help with some strategic things he has going on.
