Red Deerian’s dreams of sailing become reality with $2.5M lotto win

One Red Deerian says he’ll be on a boat sooner than later after winning $2.5 million.

Roy Wiggins stopped at 7-Eleven in Blackfalds on his way to work one morning to buy a muffin and cup of coffee. He bought a $30 Scratch ‘n Win $250 Million Golden Treasures ticket to go with his breakfast.

“I drove to work and scratched the ticket in my car. I thought Gee, I think I won,” he remembered. “I wasn’t sure I was reading the amount right, so I drove to the store to double-check it.”

With his $2.5 million windfall confirmed, Wiggins’ mind quickly went to how he’d like to get away.

“I think I’ll set sail somewhere along the Georgia Strait,” he said.
