Beer tax hearing begins today

EDMONTON- A hearing starts today that will look into whether Alberta’s beer tax violates current trade agreements.
The hearing follows last year’s decision by the Notley government to impose a mark-up of one dollar and 25 cents per litre on beer, regardless of where it’s brewed.
The province then announced a grant program for small Alberta craft breweries to help them overcome the effects of other province’s trade rules.
A Calgary liquor importer filed a formal complaint over what it calls a discriminatory policy.
